 At what miles should a car get a tune-up or oil change or anything along those lines? Is there a rule of thumb? Car maintenance really depends on the kind of car you have. I have a Camry, and I don't think it needs as much maintenance as a Jetta or a Hummer. The general rule of thumb is to have a tune-up every 30,000 miles and then have major maintenance done every 60,000 miles. Car that are older will definitely need more attention, say if they were made in the 1970's. To be on the safe side, if you are getting close to the mileage for maintenance and you are planning a roadtrip, you should definitely get your car checked before you go. You don't want your car to break down because of a simple problem in the middle of nowhere.
