question number 79 I bought my house 3 years ago and now I think time to replace kitchen cabinets. They look very old and does not go well with other improvements that I already have done in the kitchen. Any recommendation in the San Jose area ?

I like EXPO which is great for design ideas. Whether you are looking for high-end cabinetry or just want to get ideas on placement and materials, Expo is great, and their customer service is also good. For general storage and arrangement ideas, I really like to go to IKEA. There, I pick up household "accessories" that complement the rest of my place and I also like to jot down notes on how to increase the efficiency and general "flow" of my living space. Their showrooms are fun, and they are really family friendly.

For kitchen cabinet your options are – kitchen refacing or replacing the worn out cabinets. If you are happy with the layout of your existing kitchen cabinets, then you do not need to go for replacement. Given the tight budget, I will advice to go for refacing option. Right professionals with cabinet refacing specialization will have hundreds of styles for you to choose from along with add-on features you desire.

Once the plan is to your specification, they will build custom doors, drawer fronts, cabinet facing and other parts as per your liking. After replacements, your kitchen will look brand new. The entire process can often take a week.

I used Custom Cabinet Refacing www.CCREFACING.com (650)440-0508 to reface my cabinets. Dave Furtado (the owner) did an excellent job refacing our cabinets. He is an independent contractor and performs all the work himself. I highly recommend him. We saved several thousand dollars using him instead of Home Depot or Kitchenwork's! Beware of the "special sale that ends today" gimmick that Home Depot, Sear's and Kitchenworks all use to pressure you into signing their overpriced contracts! Dave also had a lot more door styles and colors to choose from.....especially in real wood.
