Requirement Posted- 2007-07-28 08:57:07.0
Location- Bolinas, CA 94924
Details- My G4 was working fine. No freezes, no crashes. Then we got DSL. For some crazy reason, I decided to hit software update, before going out for the evening. I upgraded by OS X to the latest version. The next day, Spotlight could only find 4 items on my entire hard drive. I should have backed everything up at that moment. But, I didn't realize the severity of the problem. Soon, my computer could only see the smaller Hard Drive, which has virtually no data. I took it to Steve, at MacRepair, in Novato, who is the guy that the techies use, and he's tried and tried to even see the drive, but it's just not showing up. He's even tried freezing it, without success. Help! All of my files to recreate all the various parts of my business are on there. I know, I'm an idiot, but quite honestly, I'm too poor to afford back-up software! Can anyone help, at a price that won't break me? Thanks! Tara

question number 330 This is along the lines of the orange juice disaster. I need to somehow get the info out of my computer, and I don't want to take it into the shop, because I am quite sure I can do something on my own. I can get the computer to turn on, but it does all sorts of strange things afterwards and eventually shuts off. Is there any sort of repair kit I can get to retrieve things?

I think the best thing to do would be to take it to the manufacturer and see what they can do. You probably don't want to play around with it too much otherwise something might happen. You could also take it to a repair shop and ask them to remove the hard drive so that you can have it installed onto another computer. Either way, it will probably be quite expensive. After you are done, though, you could sell your computer for parts and hope to make back some of the lost money.
