At one point I heard clicking. I took my computer in and their are definitely no viruses, and when viewing my harddrive on their computer, but the could not move, copy or open the files. It told them they didn't have access. They thought it was b/c I had a password on my laptop (although it didn't ask for a password), but now I just think it won't let them access the files, because my hard drive is corrupt. Please give me an estimate both for dollars and time. I havent recd a few estimates already and one company told me the following: if a logical problem it should cost about $300, if mechanical $500-$900, and if drive run over or damaged in fire, etc max of $1275. The also said hard drive size is irrelvant to price b/c ratio of error is same. Also said work in dust free clean room - please verify if use dust free clean room as well. Most all the documents I need are saved on my desktop and all are data files (word, pdf, xcel) Don't need any pics or music, etc, nor do I think I have any. Thanks in advance for your help.

This is along the lines of the orange juice disaster. I need to somehow get the info out of my computer, and I don't want to take it into the shop, because I am quite sure I can do something on my own. I can get the computer to turn on, but it does all sorts of strange things afterwards and eventually shuts off. Is there any sort of repair kit I can get to retrieve things?
