question number 135 I am looking to set up a site for greeting cards? should i buy template or hire a local web designer..any one here with some experience on this front?

It depends on what degree you want your site to be. A template will give you the bare-bones of a website, but a designer could customize to your needs. Do you have a host, web address, an idea of what shopping cart system you are going to employ, and how much you're willing to spend on the site monthly/overall? Check these things off first. Cafepress/geocities/paypal/eBay are good sites of reference.

If you are not looking for really fancy and dynamic site, buying existing template is not a bad idea at all. Remember, it will take lot of your time explaining things to web designer and it becomes and iterative process. It will take lot of your time and money too.
If you are little comfortable with IT world, you have make few modifications in the purchased template as well. But I am sure from millions of site available to purchase templates (believe me there are quite dynamic and attractive templates out there), you can find one of your choice. The one that I have used in the past is http://flash4layouts.com/. Hope it helps.
