My name is Michelle Goins and I am the foundation assistant at Casa Colina Rehabilitation Centers in Pomona. I have been working with Krista Struve, our events coordinator, to plan our upcoming WALK AND ROLL event which will raise monies for our Children's Department, supporting our early intervention program, our start autism program, pediatric clinical therapies, etc.

Our event which will take place on Sat July 21st, will be of a carnival atmostphere. We are soliciting different forms of entertainment for our event, and I am looking for different caricature artists in this area that might be available. We are looking for you to come as our guest and donate your caricature services to our event. We would supply the booth space (10x10"). We might be able to offer a small honorarium to pay for gas, but we are unable to pay a fee.

What are some tips for face painting?

I decided to have face painting at my son's birthday party this year. I did the research and found that professional face painters in Los Angeles and stage makeup artists can be expensive, particularly if I'm painting a whole kids party's worth of faces. So, I'm doing the face painting myself. I would suggest that others don't leave the face painting makeup around where people can get hold of them and try them out for themselves. Try out different types of paint to see which you find the best for working with, such as paint in tubs or paint in stick form.

If you're wanting to cover a large area on your face painting project for a party, I would say to put on a base color, use a sponge to apply the paint rather than a brush, it'll be quicker. Having a different sponge for different face painting colors eliminates the necessity of washing out the sponge during a painting session (the same applies to brushes). Face painting can be popular at parties and special events!

If you've got a row of kids lined up for face painting, ask the next kid in line what they'd like a few minutes before you've finished the face painting you're currently working on. This way they've a little time to try to decide and you don't lose face painting time. You may suggest a few faces, to try to limit the choice to one you're confident painting. Consider creating a chart of designs for kids to choose from; it makes it much easier for the kids to make up their minds. Include simple things such as hearts or balloons, as many kids love these; suggest something like "I heart San Francisco".
