Because since the sun is so bright, the water evaporates. The soil doesn't get a chance to absorb the water, so it doesn't get the nutrients it needs. Also, if water stays on the leaves, and the leaves are exposed to the sun, then the leaves get burned. You're supposed to water the garden in the early morning or in the evening after the sun's gone down. That way, the plant gets a maximum benefit from the water. Posted by Barbara Because the plants are already hot from the sun. When you water them, the water is cold. By mixing cold with hot like that, it's too much of a change for the poor plant, and the plant dries out. It's like if you do an hour of exercise and then immediately after that you take a cold shower, your muscles contract and then you don't feel right. Posted by Aida If you go swimming outdoors when the sun is really bright, the water makes the ultraviolet rays even stronger and you get burned. The same thing happens to the plants.
